Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA Collection: Surf's Up! Four Obscure Surf Combos

 | This 4 song 7 inch ep captures an international bevy of salty beauties. It includes Nashville's Thee Phantom 5ive, a surf vocal from Sweden's post Stomachmouths pre-Daytonas garage surfers the Livingstones called "Fun In the Sun," and two Italian bands, the Uninvited, and the Royal Nightmares. I expected little from the pasta surfers, having received several pieces of e-mail from Italian surf fans who pined "no surf in Italy, and you'd think with all the water 'round us...". But, they were pretty darn good. |
Picks: Quiet Village, Mar Gaya, The Hipster
Track by Track Review
Surf (Instrumental)
This is the Astronauts arrangement of the Les Baxter exotica classic. It is clean and pure surf, but no ground is broken. A very respectful cover.
Surf (Instrumental)
From Sardina, Italy's the Uninvited come forth with a decent version of the Fender Four's "Mar Gaya." Lo-fi garage grinder, low down and dirty.
Surf (Instrumental)
Rome's very own surf shredders the Royal Nightmares are gettin' a pretty good tube ride on their original "The Hipster." Very trad indeed, and mucho energy.
