Surfing Guitarist (Stuart Ward) - Surfadelic Musicdot
artworkThis is quite a load of rubbish! There's very little surf or psychedelic about it, unless you're into your neighbor boasting who thinks he's Henry Mancini when he wouldn't qualify for the high school marching band. Just because you over use modulation and use "surf" in titles does not make it so. Amateur at best, pathetic is more like it.

Surf The Lightning
Faux Surfadelic (Instrumental)

There's not much about this that says surf. Cheesy effected guitar, a completely non-aquatic melody, a lame drums machine that wouldn't know a surf beat if it fell on it. Likewise, psychedelic sounds evade capture here. A bit of thunder and a never ending journey into un-engaging sound. I was asleep after about 30 seconds.

Surf That SOB
Faux Surfadelic (Instrumental)

Oh boy does this want to be Jimi Hendrix, but my goodness does not even come close. The chemistry of other musicians is sorely missed as "Surf That SOB" seems only to meander which completely unreal drums breaks come from the robot.

Too Wasted To Surf dotdot
Faux Surfadelic (Instrumental)

"Too Wasted To Surf" calls to the surf in the way the Satrianis' of the guitar wank world do - not at all. However, this is a mark above many others here in its more developed arrangement. Still lacking chemistry, there is a soaring sense in the guitar.

The Good, The Bad, & The Surfer dotdotdot
Faux Surfadelic (Instrumental)

With the name trading on Enio Morricone's "The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly," you'd expect a spaghetti western sounding theme, or at least a variant, but alas, it's not to be. That said, there's a sadness and spatial sense here, and an interesting drum sequence. Moodiness in the ambiance, and over use of affects, but overall a listenable track.

The Naked Surfer dotdot
Faux Surfadelic (Instrumental)

Cruddy eighties snare beat and over-dramatic guitar and keys makes this seem like it wants to be in the prog arena, but it misses the mark on a number of levels, not the least of which is the sweeping panorama of great prog. Once off the table, it was not recallable, so you won't miss this one if you never get to hear it.

For A Few Surfs More dot
Faux Surfadelic (Instrumental)

Over use of modulation is nothing more than gimmicky. Again ripping off Enio Morricone in title, the song does not deliver on the threat. Nothing of interest here.

Dangerous Caves dot
Faux Surfadelic (Instrumental)

Pour water into a glass and use fake wind noise... but it doesn't suggest a cave, just washing dishes. Slow and drama-intended, "Dangerous Caves" does have an interesting lilt once away from the trickle, but the robot drums and very slowly evolving riff just don't hold attention. What starts out to be interesting gets very boring very fast.

Modern Instrumental Music Rule
Faux Surfadelic (Instrumental)

The pretentious title precedes pompous guitar hero soaring and drum machine boredom. Not a song, just an evolving theme. Completely dismissible.

Dance On My Grave
Faux Surfadelic (Instrumental)

Sequencing everywhere, but not capturing imagination the way the Neutrons, Neu, Hawkwind, Kraftwerk, or even Ozric Tentacles did. It goes on forever... more trance than song.

Instrumental For Psychiatrists
Faux Surfadelic (Instrumental)

Cheesy machine percussion and long effected guitar lines with too much delay. This is a moody but ineffective track. It would work for a scenic backdrop, but does not hold attention when in focus.
