Track by Track Review
Punk Surf (Instrumental)
This is gradually escalating punkoidal instro with surf influences and splashy playing. Heavy, yet playful.
Punk Surf (Instrumental)
From a dark punky platform and surf thinking, "Muss Lurion Sterben?" rises to the challenges of the curl. It's really more punk than surf, yet it's surely fitting for some shortboard terror.
Mothership Neptune the Soquel Punk Surf (Instrumental)
Dry rhythm chops, surfisms, aquatic punk, a circular riff, and great drums. The bass relentlessly grumbles beneath it all. The rhythm riff is derived from the Adams Family theme, or is it the Munsters? No matter, it's just a passing reference. Nice track.
Punk Surf (Instrumental)
This is quite an excursion. A little tango, some surf, some punk spunk, and a cool rhythm and riff. dark, yet playful, "Surf! Enchilada Surf!" is an intriguing track with several changes and drama.
Punk Surf (Instrumental)
"Starfighter" rises from the drone of space through a lumbering surf sludge, to a fast paced space surf assault. Not melodic in the attractive sense, yet not riffy either. Intense and dominating, with an eerie coldness.
Punk Surf (Instrumental)
Planet Creep take an old rock instro theme (the police chase) and move into an angular darkness. Surf twang, punk distortion, and infectious chunk. This is a splendid intro!
Punk Surf (Instrumental)
"Tsunami Slut" crosses boundaries between the surf idiom and punk with ease. Some heavy sections, some delicate plucking, and some mathematical punk-surf. Not sure why the title.
effe pissen Punk Surf (Instrumental)
This is a brief forty-two second noodle exercise.
The Purple People Eater Punk Surf (Instrumental)
No, it's not the Sheb Wooley gimmick song. It's also not as interesting as the rest of the instros here. "The Purple People Eater" seems to me to be much too riffy. It's not unchanging, but the changes don't add anything. maybe it's just very cohesive.
Punk Surf (Instrumental)
Launched from some mysterious place, and hinting of "Music To Watch Girls By" when you have a captain Beefheart mood on, "CX-9" is a difficult track, yet has a mathematical dissonance that's strangely attractive.
Punk Surf (Instrumental)
"Fleissfressende Pflanzen" is almost pompous in its drama, yet simple and pure in its punk-and-circumstance roots. Cool track.
Punk Surf (Instrumental)
A bazillion bands have cut versions of Link Wray's "Run Chicken Run." This is another. Fun, but unremarkable.
Punk Surf (Instrumental)
This is a live take of Planet Creep's gradually escalating punkoidal instro. Very dark and powerful this way. Surf influences and splashy playing. Heavy duty danger.
