The Marketts - Surfin'dotdotdot
artworkJoe Saraceno was quick to jump on the band wagon with Surf titles, laying down the nearly Lawrence Welk forties-ish "Surfers Stomp." As the years went by, he strayed even farther from the genre under continued use of names like the Routers and the Marketts. Within lie some of his awful disco output, a few nearly palletable immitations of his early work, and some elevator emptiers. Even at $6 new for a mere 27 minutes, this is a true waste of plastic.
Picks: Ali Boon Bye Aye, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, Surfer's Stomp, Balboa Blue, Batman Theme, Twilight City, Cast Your Fate To The Wind, Miami Blue, Secret Agent Man, Out Of Limits

Track by Track Review

Ali Boon Bye Aye
Cheer Leader Latin Disco (Instrumental)

Boy, does this suck! Bad feeling-free Latin studio concoction. Not the slightest hint of surf. The chanted chorus is... well... childish at best. It's like a lame attempt at the "Love Boat" theme.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Disco Spaghetti (Instrumental)

Oh man... Enio Morricone must be rolling in his grave. Disco spaghetti.

Surfer's Stomp dot
Big Band (Instrumental)

Frankly, Susan and the SurfTones do the best version of this song. This is simple slow paced innocent instrumental rock and roll, with great piano and saucy sax. Infectious and unpretentious. Don't look for the classic surf sound here, but do enjoy the simplicity and fun. Smooth and right nice.

Balboa Blue dotdotdot
Big Band (Instrumental)

As the years went by, he strayed even farther from the genre under continued use of names like the Routers and the Marketts. Within lie some of his awful disco output, a few nearly palatable imitations of his early work, and some elevator emptiers. This is a re-recording.

Batman Theme dot
TV Theme (Instrumental)

Pompousoid dribble, now where near as interesting as Neil Hefty's release, and certainly of no particular importance. Just sequenced TV theme fair.

Twilight City
Elevator (Instrumental)

A new recording form the criminally unmusical. Nothing at all like the original. Disco crappola cosa nostra...

Cast Your Fate To The Wind
Elevator (Instrumental)

Egads... Joe Saraceno should at least have retitled this "Castrate The Wind." Empty elevator mung.

Miami Blue dot
Big Band (Instrumental)

Piano and sax predictably made in the style of "Balboa Blue," but not very interesting...

Secret Agent Man dot
Rock (Instrumental)

A little guitar, useless piano, emotion free sax... it all adds up to an unemployed agent. A sad cover of Phil Sloane's classic TV theme.

Out Of Limits dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This is a mid seventies K-TEL recording. Less emotional, more sterile. As an alternate version, it will be necessary for you collectors out there to have.
