Famous Monsters - Around The World In 80 Bikinisdotdot
artworkThis is a collection of their three seven inchers on Estrus. This band is somewhat like a tighter version of the Trashwomen, but without Elka Zolot's charm. Mostly chord progressions without a melody or focus. There are a couple of cool tracks, though, from their "Knock, Knock. Halloween" single. "Actual Monster Party!" is an added "bonus Track," but it's nothing more than silly chatter at a party... theoretically.
Picks: Monsters Girls Are Go!!!, Blood Of Frankenstein, Monsters Over Tokyo!, The Werewolf Wiggle, Monster Stomp, Bite Burn!, Skull Hunter-Uh-Oh!, Boo! (Hoo Hoo), The Reluctant Ghoul, Blood Of Frankenstein, Bloody Mary, Outerspace Deathrace, Destroy Puny Earthlings

Track by Track Review

Monsters Girls Are Go!!! dotdot
Garage Surf Trash (Instrumental)

Riff rock with reverb, pheromone screaming, and uncontrolled thunder. From their "Famous Monsters... Are Go!!!" single.

Blood Of Frankenstein dotdotdot
Garage Surf Trash (Instrumental)

Vibrato repetitioso... a basic progression is repeated a lot with cool vibrato, while the thunder rumbles below. It has enough changes to keep it afloat, but it isn't all that interesting. From their "Famous Monsters... Are Go!!!" single.

Monsters Over Tokyo! dotdot
Garage Surf Trash (Instrumental)

Reverbed chordage, garage chunk, riot shrieks, and a lot of repetition. From their "Famous Monsters... Are Go!!!" single.

The Werewolf Wiggle dotdotdot
Garage Surf Trash (Instrumental)

Ultra throb vibrato, a rhythm pattern much like the Crawling Walls' "The Brain That Wouldn't Fry," only grodier, and cheesy guitar with "do the werewolf wiggle" shouted out between verses. From their "Famous Monsters... Are Go!!!" single. Pretty repetitious.

Monster Stomp, Bite Burn! dotdot
Garage Surf Trash (Instrumental)

Basic progression, garage thrash, girl angst, teenage screams, and general din. From their "Knock Knock. Halloween" single.

Skull Hunter-Uh-Oh! dotdotdot
Garage Surf Trash (Instrumental)

An actual surf melodic instrumental, with a good riff and cool drums. It's a bit tribal, somewhat exotic, and very fun. It;s brilliant little capsule of reverbed fun. Easily the best track here! From their "Knock Knock. Halloween" single.

Boo! (Hoo Hoo) dotdotdot
Garage Surf (Instrumental)

The heavy punkoidal surf trash of Famous Monsters with interspersed cries of "Boo Hoo Hoo." Not much musically, and very sloppy. It reminds me of some of the Trashwomen releases. Lots of energy compensating for minimal writing and playing.

The Reluctant Ghoul dotdotdot
Garage Surf Trash (Instrumental)

Reverbed chords, walking strollin' noise, and a nice little sound. It has an afternoon walk with Link on your mind but not on your guitar feel, with plenty of cool. I like this. From their "Knock Knock. Halloween" single.

Blood Of Frankenstein dotdotdot
Garage Surf Trash (Instrumental)

Vibrato repetitioso... a basic progression is repeated a lot with cool vibrato, while the thunder rumbles below. It has enough changes to keep it afloat, but it isn't all that interesting. From their "Famous Monsters... Are Go!!!" single.

Bloody Mary dotdot
Garage Surf Trash (Instrumental)

Basic progressional work with inserted narratives. Without a melody, it lacks focus. From their "Strait To The Moon! (live)" single.

Outerspace Deathrace dotdot
Garage Surf Trash (Instrumental)

Fast thrash, no melody, and very repetitious. Thick, but otherwise not interesting. From their "Strait To The Moon! (live)" single.

Destroy Puny Earthlings dotdot
Garage Surf Trash (Instrumental)

Fuzzy trashy punkie snotty chords looking for a point. Chunky peanut butter without the peanut butter... just the chunks. From their "Strait To The Moon! (live)" single.
