Track by Track Review

For A Few Waves More dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A throbbing vibrato intro to "For A Few Dollars More" fakes you out with anticipation of a fine spaghetti western cover. Instead, what transpires is a liquid variation on the theme that's both original and yet borrows. "For A Few Waves More" is a very cool tune with a sensual melody line and whammy twang.

Pipeline dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

A precision cover of thee surf archetype is warmly played and rhythmically arranged. While it doesn't fall far from the tree, it does convey that infectious chemistry so often invoked by those wonderful runs. The subtlety of this version is really powerful.

Mr. Moto dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Add whammy twang to the Belairs' seminal "Mr. Moto" and retain the warmth of the Packards incarnation of this root of all things surf, and you have a tuff and fun cover.

The Wedge dotdotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

This may be the first time I've heard "The Wedge" played at a very slow pace. Remarkably fluid and silky, at this speed, it takes on strong Spanish flavor. Completely endearing, it's refreshing to hear something new done with this hot instro. Liquid gold!

Penetration dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

The Pyramids' claim to fame is reverently delivered with friendly textures. The rhythm domination of "Penetration" is retained, and with more sustain, it is warmer and updated, without losing sight of the source. Quite nice.

Liquid Chaos dotdotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Verging on ominous, "Liquid Chaos" is driven by thick chords and edge. The long distortion notes ebb and flow like undertow about to take you under. Harmonics amplify the danger of this fluid and stormy surf epic.

Tailspin dotdotdot
Surf (Instrumental)

Los Straitjackets' circular "Tailspin" is happily and energetically power surfed with modern edge and a solid beat. This is a fiery cover, with an affective arrangement.
