Track by Track Review

California Badass dotdotdotdot
Country Surf Rock (Instrumental)

Great exotic tribal drums and Indian calls with undulating bass provide a powerful rhythmic underbelly for a rockin' lead. "California Badass" is a fun riff-rockin' mofo. Really beefy and infectious. I love the beat!

Pulled Pork dotdotdot
Country Surf Rock (Instrumental)

This is an all-fun cowboy bounce. Playful guitar riffs ride atop a classic country boogie. Very cool!

Wudy's Ghost dotdotdotdot
Country Surf Rock (Instrumental)

Folkrock-ish in a Byrds go to the beach kind of way. Dramatic drums and bass, with fine folkrock guitars. If you like Freddie 'Steady' KRC's approach to country and folkrock, you'll appreciate this. This is simple and brilliant!

Star Spangled Banner dotdotdotdot
Country Surf Rock (Instrumental)

Honoring the flag with great tone and dramatic drums and bass... and then it breaks into a superb rippin' arrangement with wonderful dry chop rhythm chords and tuff bass and drums. "Star Spangled Banner" is just about the best cover ever!

Sun Stroked dotdotdotdot
Country Surf Rock (Instrumental)

Super thin sound starts it off, but rapidly disappears as full bodied tone takes hold. Fine drums, solid bass, and some very cool guitar lines. "Sun Stroked" is gutty and rockin'.

The Tijuana Three dotdotdotdot
Country Surf Rock (Instrumental)

Superb Mexican cinema guitar lines romantically open "The Tijuana Three." Then, an infectious beat and very smooth bass line launch the song into a perfect orbit. Its easy energy and catchy beat are quite magnetic. The muted verse is very cool!

Rumbled dotdotdotdot
Country Surf Rock (Instrumental)

This is a hard edged nod to Link Wray and his Raymen's "Rumble." Dramatic, long sustain, crunchy tone, and long flowing bass lines. About halfway through, The Deadlies romp into articulate jam territory with liberated classic rock lines in liquid tone. A fine cover!

WFB dotdotdot
Country Surf Rock (Instrumental)

A classic Chicago boogie pattern reminiscent of Jimmy Reed, with some silly exchanges between band members about girls in bikinis. It's an easy track, yet fun and satisfying.

#4616 dotdotdotdot
Country Surf Rock (Instrumental)

Superb drums, lovely smooth bass, and delicate guitar lines ringing out a splendid little country blues ditty. This may not rock your world, but it will sneak in and stay. Very cool!

Town and Country dotdotdot
Country Surf Rock (Instrumental)

Country twangin' jam with solid drums and thumping bass. "Town and Country" is a bit of a riff rocker, with excellent drums, and a catchy sound.

Red Dirt dotdotdot
Country Surf Rock (Instrumental)

"Red Dirt" starts out slow and ominous, then charges into gritty bluesy grind. It's a tortured, soaring, rock epic with echoed calls.

Bodega dotdotdot
Country Surf Rock (Instrumental)

The waves lap the shore at Bodega Bay as the Latin rhythms and percussion undulate beneath this lighter track. Melodically interesting and edgy, with great drums and very string bass. "Bodega" grew on me.

Tequila Mockingbird dotdotdotdot
Country Surf Rock (Instrumental)

Rhythmically very Bo Diddley, "Tequila Mockingbird" is a gritty and tribal homage to the classic rhythms of the diddley bow. I must say that it's the beat and bass that makes this work, though the tone and guitar lines are surely cool.

Wasabi Western dotdotdotdot
Country Surf Rock (Instrumental)

Gentle liquid notes and the sounds of the shore call to the lagoon. Children play and a horse rides up. Then a galloping rhythm ensues as a western scene unfolds.
