Collection: Surf In Germanydotdot
artworkThis comp sports just two instros, but they are not comp'd elsewhere, one OK, one not.

The other 13 tracks are all "surf" vocals, including the Beach Boys' singing "In My Room" in German under the title "Ganz Allein."

Many German lyric covers of American hits are here, like "Barbara Ann" (Die Tores), "Hey Little Blondie" a.k.a. "Hey Little Honda" (Steff), "California Sun" (Benny Quick), "Die Crazy Girls" (Lass Dir Zeit) which is amazingly set to "Walk Don't Run '64," "Eine Reise Nach New York" a.k.a. "Fun Fun Fun" (Mama Betty's Band), "Wir Wollen Nach Haus" a.k.a. "Sloop John B." (Peter and Alex), "Holiday City" a.k.a. "Surf City" (Club Gerry Friedrich), "Kleine Kiddio" a.k.a. "Little GTO" (Gene Williams), "Kein Alibi" a.k.a. "King of the Surf" in the wimpiest interpretation ever (Michael Holm), plus some original German fare, including "Mondschein Surf" (Hubert Wolf), the rockin' "Der Knuller Mausi Muller" (Michael and the Firebirds), and the touristy "Summer In Hawaii" (Blue Brothers).
Picks: Achterbahn 8, Olympic Nights

Track by Track Review

Achterbahn 8
Caribbean Tourist (Instrumental)

This is a light weight instro with piano lead and an almost touristy Caribbean sound, with flute and horns. Jeesh!

Olympic Nights dotdotdot
Studio Surf (Instrumental)

"Olympic Nights" is credible, with actual guitar, though it's certainly more Shadows based than surf. The melody line is like a second cousin to "Exodus." Some of the arrangement is flighty and MOR, though it's mostly on the rockin' side, however restrained the performance might be. Some fifties rockisms, some Hank Marvin nods, and some elevator elements too.
