Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA Collection: Mondo Hollywood (OST)

 | 1967 saw the release of this pioneering psychedelic exploitation film. The soundtrack included 3 instros, a nifty garage track or two, some useless pop, and a bit of evolving folkrock. |
Picks: 18th Century Concepts - Magic Night March, Davie Allan and the Arrows - Moonfire, The Mugwump Establishment - Mondo Hollywood Freakout
Track by Track Review
18th Century Concepts - Magic Night March
Marching band (Instrumental)
"Magic Night March" is a sorta cool marching band style track with a cool melody line and big energy.
Davie Allan and the Arrows - Moonfire

Surf (Instrumental)
This is an interesting track, with borrowed elements from a number of classics melded into a new thing. The drums from "Wipe Out" merged with the drums from "Moon Dawg," which also provided the piano and rhythm, and then a bit of Davie Allan's sound and fury binds it all together. Quite interesting.
The Mugwump Establishment - Mondo Hollywood Freakout

Psychedelic (Instrumental)
The Mugwump Establishment make moderate psychedelic noise with "Mondo Hollywood Freakout." It's kind of garage, kind of tribal, and pretty psychedelic. In many ways, it personifies the way Hollywood saw the whole psychedelic sound. Near surf guitar noodles while the song meanders aimlessly through a ballroom haze while the band relentlessly pumps out a supporting structure. The drummer does some pretty interesting stuff here, perhaps being the saving grace of the track.
