Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA The Boss Martians - Move!
|This is easily the best produced and most interesting Boss Martians release ever. Great rock and roll vocals, rock solid sound, and tight performances. In the Northwest tradition, and perhaps on the Paul Revere and the Raiders end of the scale, this CD is loaded with great tracks! Songs like "She's In, You're Gone" and "I Want More" are perfect pop capsules, and the period hot rod sensibilities of "Bad Ass '71 Dodge Charger Super Bee" and "Never Trust A Chick (In A 3 Window Coupe)" are spot-on. The surf instros are among the best the Boss Martians have done. Of note is the really cute (that's a compliment, folks) "Intermission." A great release!|
Picks: The Last Ride, Trouble On 2 Wheels, Intermission, Chihuahua Del Diablo, Pandilla en Motocicleta
Track by Track Review
Damped reverb guitar and whistling organ under solid surf leads in an infectious rhythmic framework power this rich track. The shimmering vibratoed electric piano break is very cool. In terms of hooks, "The Last Ride" is right up there with their grand "XK-E." magnificent!
Slow sinewy vibrato charm ooze from every note of this fine track. Rich tone and riff rock styling, with lots of twang and groove. Infectious and fun.
Surf Lounge (Instrumental)
Well, isn't this a cool track. Loungy, exotica tinged, surf reverbed, with cute cheesy keys, and a bouncy melody line. This is unpretentious, and REALLY cool! Too much fun!
"Chihuahua Del Diablo" is a slow percussive and bouncy surf instro with charm and a great acoustic guitar lead. Mexican imagery and stylings, and beautiful sound. I'm impressed!
"Pandilla en Motocicleta" is a Davie Allan inspired instrumental with a cool riff and solid sound. catchy and playful, this track flows well and shows off the new Harley saddlebags on your Kawasaki just fine.
