Phil Dirt - Reverb Central - PO Box 1609, Felton, CA 95018-1609 USA The Blue Rocket Trio - Website Sound
|These four live tracks were culled from The Blue Rocket Trio's MySpace page over time. The original here is very good. I'd sure like to hear a decent studio take. These songs were recorded live at venue unknown, and post-produced to make these probably soundboard recordings sound better. The results are mixed - boomy bottom end, no high end at all, over compressed, but reasonably balanced.|

Track by Track Review
This is a live rendering of Bobby Fuller and the Fanatics' "Our Favorite Martian." Rockabilly tone in lieu of reverb doesn't seem to detract from this venerable surf classic. Several guitar mistakes, however, along with the boomy sound, do make it a chore to listen to.
This is an edgy cover of Los Straitjackets' "Itchy Chicken." Rockin' and pumped up, this live capture is fun and power-based. They announce it as surf, but of course it's no such thing.
Surf Blues (Instrumental)
This is a lovely number with a beautiful island melody and tropical whammy. "Illusion" flows like a gentle stream through your imagination, projecting more or less still waters and warm breezes. On the bluesy side in the break. Pretty darn cool!
Surf Rock (Instrumental)
This is a very rock sounding cover of Halibuts' "Hammerhead." Aside from a guitar error, this is pretty hard charging and cool. This version is all about edge and charm. The audience sure enjoys it.
